Product Information Questions:
I want to network two PCs with a
third server unit. Do I have to buy three systems, one for the server?
No. When you install the software you can choose whether
to install the client component or server component or both. The server component
does not require activation, has no user interface and does not require a scanner
to be attached. Therefore you can buy two packages and just install the server component
on the server machine.
What are the system requirements?
The system only operates on Windows operating systems 2000/XP/2003 & Vista. A stand
alone PC (Which will also have the server component installed on it) or another
network linked machine acting as server for the system will need to also have SQL
Server 2005 (Any edition) installed. Please note that SQL Server 2005 Express is
free from Microsoft however we include a copy of it on the CD shipped with your
purchase.
What are the limits for the software?
There are no software limits. Limits are more likely to be decided by the processing
power of the host machine/network but with those limits up in the "hundreds of thousands
of people" range it is unlikely to be an issue.
Do I have to have a camera?
No. This is optional. You can if you wish use any TWAIN compliant device to attach
an image to a person's record. So instead of a TWAIN compliant camera you could
also use a normal flatbed scanner to scan a picture in. Note that many of todays
cheaper webcams all support TWAIN image aquisition.
Do I have to have a fingerprint
scanner?
No. The fingerprint scanner is included in the prices. See the Buy Now option to
the left for more information. If you already have a Secugen scanner and only want
the software then there is a "Software only" bundle available in the Buy Now section.
Can I record attendance / extract
a log of users?
Ideal for in a security or attendance logging environment the software can be setup
to record retrieval of peoples' identities to a simple CSV file that can then be
analysed in Excel or Access for reporting who has been verified at a given "station".
The software logs in the simple CSV text file the ID, the name, the date, the time
and the machine/station name for where the fingerprint was matched.
What is Read-only mode for?
If you configure a station for Read-only mode then the station only allows records
to be retrieved and not enrolled or amended. A member of the Domain or Machine "administrators"
group can login to switch a machine back to read/write if need be.
Support Questions:
My opening panel of the software
says "Software not activated or expired". What does that mean?
Each installation of the client component of the system
is copy protected. After installation you use the Setup Tab of the product to get
an activation request code (See PDF users guide). Send this request code to us using
the "contact us" link at the top of the page and we will send you an activation
code to activate the product on that PC.
